Extension and renovation of a 1960s Scandinavian villa

This project reimagines a 1960s pitched-roof Scandinavian villa as a contemporary five-bedroom family home.

A series of extensions reinterpret the strong geometry of the original building, forming three pitched volumes that expand the house while maintaining the character of its architectural language.

The new ground floor is organised as a flowing open plan arrangement of lounges, dining space, kitchen and work areas.

The dramatic roof forms create generous internal volumes, allowing light to move through the plan while framing views across the surrounding gardens

Within the upper level, the pitched volumes accommodate a master bedroom suite, additional bedrooms and a mezzanine.

These spaces take advantage of the height and geometry of the roof to create varied and intimate rooms overlooking the living spaces below and the gardens beyond.

Across the extensive grounds, a series of patios and intimate outdoor rooms extend the living spaces into the landscape.

Pools, terraces and mature trees punctuate the site, creating a sequence of sheltered and open spaces that reinforce the relationship between architecture and garden.
