An elegant sunken garden room extension, full of light and defined by views of the outside, replaced an existing lean to housing a cramped kitchen.
The kitchen was relocated to the centre of property into a space which was enlarged with structural modifications.
Site constraints dictated that new steelwork was installed below the ceiling.
Additional downstands were introduced to create a coffered ceiling and the recesses lined with cornices to reference original features.
The rear extension was intentionally offset from the kitchen / diner to create separation between the spaces.
At the transition between the spaces a curved wall softens the boundary between the rooms and the continuity of stone floor ties the arrangement together.
The kitchen is designed to appear as freestanding furniture rather than built in joinery. The island is elevated on a metal frame and all the appliances are hidden from sight or integrated.
A timber lined concealed breakfast bar allows equipment to be neatly stored and provides an illuminated feature when open.
A bold, industrial material palette is employed inside and out. Black brick and cement board cladding complement the kitchen cupboards and stainless steel worktop
An abundance of house plants connects the interior with the garden. The client’s sumptuous artwork completes a sophisticated composition creating an amazing home.
