A spacious kitchen diner extension in Highgate, with playful gym / yoga space and bold utility room. Significant structural interventions allowed internal walls to be removed and dated conservatories replaced, creating a generous kitchen, dinning space and lounge, with adjoining gym / yoga space and utility room.
Steel elements are exposed forming a strong composition with exposed timber joists and an industrial material palette of concrete render, marmoleum and brickwork. Walls and ceiling were painted in a consistent warm white to emphasise texture and grain, with light and shadow.
The extensions fill the width of the site, with a tall picture window at the centre defining the composition of the new additions, against the asymmetry of the host semi-detached property. Sliding doors lead to balconies with steps down to a garden level terrace.
Burnt timber cladding and black bricks complement the interior design. Angled bricks below the picture window add depth to the masonry and form a contrasting plinth to the smooth glazed surface above.
